Stabbed after an evening out: Gabriele Vaccaro dies at 25 in Pavia

According to virgilio.it, a 25-year-old boy, Gabriele Vaccaro, was killed by stab wounds in the night between Saturday and Sunday in a car park in Pavia, a few steps from the historic centre. The victim, originally from Favara in Agrigento and resident in the city for years, where he worked as a labourer in Stradella, died at the Policlinico San Matteo following emergency surgery, due to blood loss.

The dynamics of the attack

The stabbing took place around 3:30 am in the car park of the former Cattaneo area, near the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro. Vaccaro had spent the evening in a bar with some friends and was heading towards his parked car when the group encountered other young people.

According to the reconstruction published by La Repubblica, between the two groups provocations and insults began, escalating into a scuffle. One of the attackers drew a knife and struck the 25-year-old in the neck, inflicting a wound that proved fatal.

The delay in emergency response

Il Giorno reports that Vaccaro's friends, initially, did not understand the gravity of the situation: instead of immediately calling for emergency services, they put him in the car with the intention of treating him elsewhere. Only when they realised the extent of the wound did they alert the 118 emergency services. The 25-year-old was then transported to the Policlinico San Matteo, where he died shortly after the operation. Another boy from the same group is injured, but is not in danger of life.

Investigations ongoing, attackers fled

The attackers fled immediately after the stabbing. Copious traces of blood were left at the scene. The mobile squad of the Pavia Police Headquarters acquired images from surveillance cameras in the area and collected statements from the victim's friends. Both Il Giorno and La Repubblica report that the group of attackers could be of foreign origin.

Investigators are working to identify those responsible and clarify the motive: they are examining whether it was a settling of scores, a robbery attempt that turned violent, or a sudden attack by a group.

Condolences from Favara

The news caused shock in the community of Favara. The municipal council expressed condolences in a statement from the President of the Council: "The entire community of Favara is in shock. There are no words to describe the pain at the sight of a life shattered so brutally while they were away from home pursuing their future and honouring their work commitment."

The statement continues: "In this moment of immeasurable suffering, the Municipal Council embraces the Vaccaro family with fraternal warmth. We trust in the work of the Magistracy and Law Enforcement so that full light can be shed on this brutal murder and justice can take its course as soon as possible."
