Renato Mastroianni, 52, was detained on suspicion of murder after turning himself in in Milan. As reported by Google News IT — Crime (it), the man is accused of killing Yassine Mirinioui, a 36-year-old of Moroccan origin, the previous Sunday on a beach in Savona. The detention order was issued by the Lombardy capital's police, whilst the Carabinieri in Savona are conducting the investigation.
The violence took place in broad daylight, in front of hundreds of beachgoers. Between Mastroianni and Mirinioui, a quarrel apparently broke out over trivial reasons, which rapidly escalated: the 52-year-old drew a knife and struck the victim in the lower abdomen, then fled. While Mirinioui was transported to hospital and underwent emergency surgery, Mastroianni reached Milan.
The flight lasted just a few hours. On Monday afternoon, Mastroianni — originally from Savona and homeless — contacted the emergency services declaring himself in a bar in the Lambrate district. Taken to police headquarters, he was found still in possession of the knife used in the attack.
Mirinioui arrived at hospital in desperate condition and never regained consciousness. Doctors were unable to save his life. The magistrate in charge of the investigation, Luca Traversa, ordered an autopsy on the body. On the Ligurian beach, meanwhile, some white flowers were placed near the tent where the victim met his death.
