Murder in Udine: Koufi confesses to killing Bensefiyan with a knife
Mohamed Koufi has admitted to the murder of Abdellatif Bensefiyan in Sant'Osvaldo. The motive remains unclear, with possible links to money and a romantic relationship.
Koufi confesses to Sant'Osvaldo murder: 'I killed Abdellatif'
Mohamed Koufi, 32, a Moroccan citizen, has confessed to killing Abdellatif Bensefiyan, known as Abdoul. According to telefriuli.it, the man was interrogated in the evening of the previous day at the provincial carabinieri command on viale Trieste in Udine, in the presence of prosecutor Letizia Puppa and his defence lawyer, Martino Benzoni.
"He answered the questions and was very cooperative, despite being exhausted and tired. He admitted to the act and did not evade his responsibilities," the lawyer declared. Koufi had been captured in the afternoon at Basiliano railway station. He is now held in prison on via Spalato and will appear tomorrow before the judge for validation of his arrest.
The motive for the crime, committed in the Sant'Osvaldo neighbourhood, remains still to be established. Investigators hypothesise a connection with the relationship Koufi had with the victim's sister, but they are also investigating marriage negotiations and a sum of money that was supposed to be repaid. Koufi has a wife and five children in Morocco; it is unclear when his ex-partner became aware of his family situation.
Arrived in Italy in 2022 and without a fixed address, he had lived in Rive d'Arcano before moving to Cisterna di Coseano. After the murder he would have travelled on foot a long distance to Basiliano, though investigators are verifying whether he received help. As for the wig found together with the knives, Koufi claims he removed it before committing the crime.
