Antonello Scirpoli, 35 years old, known by the nickname "Musulin", was killed by rifle fire in the late evening yesterday in Vieste, in the Foggia province. The ambush took place in the Defensola Intersiglio locality, in the countryside of the Gargano centre: the victim was riding a scooter when he was hit by several shots along a secondary road. By the time emergency services arrived, there was nothing more that could be done for Scirpoli.
Carabinieri arrived at the scene and carried out technical-scientific investigations, launching inquiries to identify those responsible. The investigation was transferred to the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bari, a decision that reinforces the hypothesis of a murder linked to organised crime dynamics in the Gargano.
Scirpoli was already known to law enforcement and the judiciary. On 27 June 2024, he had been sentenced to five years in prison, with disqualification from public office, for having aided the escape of Gianluigi Troiano, called "U' Minorenn", long considered the principal right-hand man of boss Marco Raduano, alias "Pallone". According to the reconstruction by Bari's DDA, Scirpoli provided Troiano with shelters, means of transport, telephone cards and money to evade searches, with the aim of assisting the mafia organisation linked to the Raduano clan. Both Troiano and Raduano were arrested in 2024, respectively in Spain and Corsica, after a long period in hiding; both subsequently chose to collaborate with the judicial authorities.
Investigators are now reconstructing the victim's final hours. The investigations by the carabinieri, coordinated by the DDA, are continuing to identify the perpetrators of the crime and establish the motive.
The mayor of Vieste, Giuseppe Nobiletti, expressed alarm following the murder. "That something was moving within criminal circles could be perceived from the attempted murder that occurred last March, then the other incident in the square in June and now Scirpoli's murder. I had reported my concerns to law enforcement from March onwards. We had emerged from a nightmare that lasted many years in 2019, when the last murder occurred; now it seems we are returning to that situation," Nobiletti declared to ANSA.
The mayor recounted recent episodes of violence in the city: in June a 42-year-old man was wounded in the arm by gunfire discharged by a 17-year-old, traced by the carabinieri and placed in community care; in March another injury had occurred outside a supermarket. "We want the same attention that was given in those years and which led to a situation of tranquillity for quite some time. Activities are needed like those deployed in past years to defeat criminality," the mayor concluded.
