According to rainews.it, the mobile squad of Milan has arrested a 19-year-old boy of Peruvian origin, resident in the Milan hinterland, on suspicion of aggravated murder. The young man is believed to be one of the suspected direct perpetrators of the death of Gianluca Ibarra Silvera, 22, stabbed to death at Milan Certosa railway station in the night between 26 and 27 May.
The action was taken at the end of a series of technical investigations coordinated by the Milan prosecutor's office, headed by Marcello Viola. In the afternoon, on the orders of prosecutor Elio Ramondini and deputy prosecutor Bruna Albertini, officers had carried out searches against eight young South Americans. The position of the nineteen-year-old emerged through the analysis of security camera footage, site inspections and testimonies collected in the days following the assault.
The other seven young men were questioned at length by investigators to clarify the circumstances of events, but at present no action has been taken against them.
The murder is part of a context of social hardship that has long been monitored in Milan. Milan Certosa station, in the northern outskirts of the city, is known as a meeting point and place of confrontation between urban youth gangs, the so-called pandillas. In recent years the area has seen the presence of groups linked to South American transnational crime, as evidenced by graffiti with the acronym LK, referring to the Latin Kings gang, and reports on the presence of MS 13.
