Murder at Zen in Palermo: Two 16-year-olds and a 33-year-old arrested over death of Vito Genovese
A 45-year-old man was killed on 15 August in the Zen 2 neighbourhood of Palermo. Three criminals with prior convictions have been arrested for murder and attempted murder.

According to reports from tg24.sky.it, there may already be a breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Vito Genovese, 45, found dead on 15 August on via Costante Girardengo, in the Zen 2 neighbourhood of Palermo. The victim had a head wound caused by a sharp object.
Carabinieri from the Operational Unit of the San Lorenzo Company, supported by personnel from San Filippo Neri Station, arrested three Palermitans on the evening of 15 August, all with prior criminal records: two 16-year-old boys and a 33-year-old man, the latter already under house arrest. The three are accused, acting in concert, of the wilful murder of the 45-year-old, as well as the attempted murder of a 47-year-old man.
The investigation, conducted under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office of Palermo and the Office for Minors, made it possible to gather a solid body of circumstantial evidence. The reconstruction of events was based on inspection of the crime scene, interviews with witnesses, photographic identification and specific technical investigations. The arrest was ordered on the carabinieri's own initiative and endorsed by the public prosecutor.
According to what was established, Genovese had noticed the presence of some young people near the garage used by his family and had asked them to leave, fearing they might commit a theft. The young people allegedly first insulted him and then attacked him, apparently with a screwdriver and a helmet, causing his death. A 47-year-old man, who intervened in defence of the victim, was also injured after being struck with a screwdriver.
On the night of 15 August, a report of a brawl came in to 112. When the emergency services and carabinieri arrived, the protagonists of the violent altercation were no longer at the scene.
In addition to the arrest of the three suspects, a charge was filed in a state of freedom for attempted murder in relation to the assault against the 47-year-old. The 33-year-old must also answer for the crime of escaping lawful custody. The adult was transferred to Lorusso-Pagliarelli prison, whilst the two minors are held at the Malaspina Penal Institute for Minors.
