During a hearing of the appeal trial before the Court of Bologna, the boy already convicted of the murder of Aurora Tila broke his silence and admitted that he had personally killed the young woman. The girl, who was thirteen years old at the time, died on 25 October 2024 in Piacenza, after falling from the balcony of her home on the seventh floor.
The defendant, who had been sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Juvenile Court in the first instance, declared in court that he had pushed the victim into the void himself. He also apologised for the act committed and for waiting so long before confessing.
The lawyer for the victim's family, Emilio Malaspina, expressed satisfaction with the admission, describing it as the closure of a circle. However, he clarified that he expects confirmation of the sentence established in the first instance, which he considers proportionate to the seriousness of the act.
According to the defence counsel, the belated confession should not result in any mitigation of the sentence. He observed that the admission does not provide decisive new elements for a reduction of the conviction, and that it could be functional solely to obtaining a reduction from the 17 years already established.
The incident dates back to autumn 2024. Initially, the fifteen-year-old boy had denied any involvement, claiming that the fall had been voluntary. Investigations, however, had revealed a previous relationship characterised by obsessive behaviour on the part of the young man. The girl felt she was being followed and had even consulted artificial intelligence to understand whether her partner's behaviour was normal.
A witness had reported seeing Aurora clinging to the railing while her ex-boyfriend struck her hands until she fell. During the abbreviated trial, a former cellmate reported that the boy had confessed to him that he had pushed her. The Juvenile Court recognised all aggravating circumstances, including that of stalking.
The next hearing is scheduled for 10 September.
