Google News IT — Crime (it) reports that, sixteen years after the crime, the Prosecutor's Office in Bari believes it has identified the alleged direct perpetrator of the murder of Raffaele Pirro, a 73-year-old building contractor killed during the night between 15 and 16 July 2010 in Capurso.
On the morning of 8 July 2026, carabinieri from the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command in Bari executed a precautionary detention order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Bari against five people.
One of the accused is charged with voluntary manslaughter aggravated by premeditation, possession and illegal carrying of a firearm. The other four are accused, in various capacities, of belonging to an association aimed at illegal trafficking in narcotics and cocaine dealing. The charges are in the preliminary investigation phase and will be examined in proceedings with the defence.
Pirro's body was found lifeless in the early hours of 16 July 2010 in a lay-by at kilometre 12+100 of State Road 100, in the territory of Capurso. The man had been struck by a gunshot. Investigators established at the time that the crime was committed at the same location where the body was found. The Prosecutor's Office clarified that the victim was unconnected to criminal contexts.
In the course of the same investigative activity, evidence emerged that led to the issuance of four further precautionary measures against individuals considered responsible for an association engaged in illegal cocaine trafficking. At present, the Prosecutor's Office has provided no details about the alleged motive for the murder or about the elements that made it possible, after sixteen years, to identify the alleged person responsible.
