A 57-year-old man of Chinese origin, wanted for three decades for murder, was arrested in Boltiere, in the province of Bergamo, whilst making a food delivery in a company van. According to tgcom24.mediaset.it, the arrest was carried out by the Milan Mobile Squad pursuant to an international arrest warrant issued by the People's Republic of China.
According to Chinese authorities, the crime dates to 1995 and took place in Goacheng district. On that day, the man allegedly repeatedly stabbed a neighbour with a knife, causing his death on the spot, and also seriously wounded the victim's brother. The motive is believed to stem from personal animosity between the two. The incident led to the issuance of a murder warrant, which remained outstanding for decades.
After the assault, the fugitive left China in the late 1990s. In 2002 he managed to enter Italy, presenting himself with false details and obtaining a work permit for subordinate employment. He settled in Milan, where he led an apparently ordinary life in the food distribution sector. For approximately thirty years he moved between the Lombard capital and the province of Bergamo without raising suspicion.
The investigation that led to his capture was conducted by the Milan Mobile Squad in collaboration with Bergamo authorities. Officers located and detained him in Boltiere whilst he was carrying out a delivery in a company van. Identification confirmed a match with the subject wanted by China, enabling the execution of the international warrant in accordance with applicable extradition procedures.
Following his arrest, the 57-year-old was transferred to Bergamo prison, where he remains awaiting decisions from the Court of Appeal with competence in extradition matters. Italian authorities are examining the documentation provided by the People's Republic of China. The man's lawyer has announced that he will file an objection to the extradition request. A hearing has already been scheduled to examine the extradition procedure.
