Breakthrough in Roncade cold case: genetic profile leads to 57-year-old suspect
ANSA Cronaca reports that a 57-year-old man, resident in the province of Treviso, is now under investigation for the murder of Sandra Casagrande, a pastry chef killed with 22 stab wounds on the evening of 29 January 1991 inside her shop in Roncade.
The investigative breakthrough, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Treviso, came from new scientific analyses conducted on biological evidence preserved from the crime scene. The examinations made it possible to isolate a male genetic profile that had remained unattributed for decades.
Comparison with the National DNA Database then enabled investigators to identify the suspect. Investigators are now verifying the compatibility of his genetic profile with the biological traces collected thirty-five years ago. The investigation has been developed through modern forensic genetics techniques.
