An Italian citizen aged 52 has confessed to killing a 36-year-old man during a struggle on a beach in the Ligurian city. The incident occurred last Sunday.
The perpetrator of the crime, Renato Mastroianni, turned himself in voluntarily at a police station in Milan, where he admitted his responsibility. The Lombardy law enforcement authorities then took the suspect into custody, whilst military personnel in the maritime city continue investigating the case.
The killed man has been identified as Yassine Mirinioui, a citizen originally from Morocco. According to reports from the ANSA agency, the two people involved were both homeless. The argument allegedly broke out over issues related to a place to sleep. The suspect stated that he had struck the other person with a cutting weapon, but clarified that he had not intended to cause his death.
The restrictive measure was issued jointly by the State Police and the Carabinieri. The man is now in custody pending decisions by the judicial authorities.
The presumption of innocence of the suspect remains firm until any definitive conviction.
