Two deaths in Ostia: son allegedly smothered mother before throwing himself into the void
According to reports from Google News IT — Crime (it), investigators from the Ostia District have identified two bodies found in an apartment in the neighbourhood: Giorgio Prelec, 54 years old, originally from Trento, an elementary school teacher with no criminal record, and his mother Adriana Furlani.
Some neighbours noticed the man in a state of evident agitation whilst walking back and forth on the balcony and alerted the Fire Brigade. Shortly afterwards, Prelec threw himself into the void, using a chair placed against the parapet to climb over it.
Inside the apartment lay the body of his mother. According to the investigators' reconstruction, the man allegedly smothered the woman with a pillow before taking his own life. The two had lived in that flat for approximately twenty years; Prelec's father died years ago.
No bruises or other signs of violence were reportedly found on the bodies. The woman allegedly did not resist her attacker. An autopsy will need to clarify the man's state of health at the time of the events. Among the hypotheses investigators are considering is that the act may be linked to the mother's state of illness, but everything is still to be established.
The case forms part of a series of similar incidents that have occurred recently in the capital. Last Monday, in Pietralata, Luca Abbasciano, 42 years old, Valentina Pambianco, 41 years old, and their disabled daughter Bianca, aged 5, were found dead. Investigators believe that Abbasciano fired the shots. On the eve of Ferragosto, in Tor Bella Monaca, a 51-year-old man had killed his 71-year-old mother after she refused him 30 euros. A sixteen-year-old who killed his mother with his bare hands in Alessandrino remains hospitalised and under arrest at Policlinico Umberto I.
