Google News IT — Crime (it) reports that a 52-year-old Italian man accused of the murder of Yassine Mirinioui turned himself in on Monday afternoon at the Milan Lambrate police station. The man had taken the first train to Milan after leaving the victim dying on the sand, before deciding to surrender to the authorities.
The violent incident occurred at around 15:30 on Sunday on Prolungamento beach in Savona, one of Liguria's busiest stretches of coastline, in front of dozens of witnesses. The victim, Yassine Mirinioui, a 37-year-old from North Africa, became involved in a violent dispute with the 52-year-old over matters of space and makeshift arrangements on the shoreline.
At the height of the argument, the Italian man drew a cutting weapon and struck the 37-year-old multiple times. Some witnesses, questioned by Savona carabinieri who are leading the investigation, reported hearing the alleged attacker shout a phrase before delivering the blows: "Learn to behave better".
While rescue workers were providing first aid to Mirinioui, the attacker left Liguria and reached the Lombardy capital. The flight lasted only a few hours: in the afternoon the man presented himself voluntarily to officers at Lambrate police station, where he was subjected to a lengthy interrogation.
The Savona Prosecutor's Office, which is coordinating the investigation with public prosecutor Luca Traversa, is charging the 52-year-old with murder, to which the aggravating factor of trivial motives could be added, given the nature of the dispute triggered by a beach bed.
For Mirinioui there was nothing that could be done. Rushed to San Paolo hospital in Savona in desperate condition, the 37-year-old underwent surgery in an attempt to save his life. However, the wounds he had sustained proved too severe: the man died during the night.
