Worker freed after kidnapping in San Lazzaro: three detained by Bologna flying squad
As reported by Google News IT — Crime (it), Bologna's flying squad has arrested three people — two young Italians, just over twenty years old, and a minor from Moldova — on charges of kidnapping for extortion purposes.
The victim, a 23-year-old construction worker, had been abducted in the preceding days, bound and beaten, and held captive for one night in an agricultural farmhouse in San Lazzaro di Savena, in the metropolitan city of Bologna.
The group forced the young man to contact his girlfriend and a friend by telephone, demanding a ransom of 26,000 euros. During the telephone calls, the worker managed to convey that he was in danger, prompting relatives to alert law enforcement.
The flying squad, coordinated also by the organised crime section and the anti-mafia district directorate — which has jurisdiction over the extortion charge — organised the delivery of a fake ransom: a rucksack left in the fields. After the kidnappers collected it, officers followed and stopped them, freeing the victim unharmed.
The head of the flying squad, Guglielmo Battisti, explained that the kidnapping arose in a context of drug dealing and consumption: the worker had accumulated a debt of 16,000 euros.
