An operation is underway in the Brescia area against suspected clandestine trade in waste materials destined for abroad. The investigation, led by magistrates from the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate, has resulted in the detention of several people.
Military personnel from the unit specialising in environmental protection, with support from colleagues from Milan, Bergamo, Mantua, Treviso, Vicenza and Caserta, carried out the personal measures in the early morning hours. Those arrested are accused of having managed illicit flows of waste to Pakistan and other nations in Europe.
Further details on the investigation will be provided at a press meeting scheduled for 11:00 at the provincial headquarters of the Carabinieri.
