Anti-robbery operation in 26 cities: 70 arrests and 264 charges
A broad initiative by law enforcement against predatory crimes involved 26 urban centres in the north and centre of the country, resulting in a considerable number of people arrested or referred to prosecutors. The action targeted chiefly thefts, robberies and other conduct that harms the property of citizens.
The overall balance stands at 70 individuals arrested, including one adolescent, and 264 reported to the magistracy without restriction of freedom, of whom 25 were minors. During the checks, 29 implements useful for breaking and entering were confiscated, along with more than 13,000 euros in cash, branded clothing, gold jewellery, two thousand packets of tobacco valued at an estimated 10,000 euros, 19 pistols or rifles and related ammunition.
In the Piacenza province, officers from the Mobile Squad checked 619 people — thirty minors — in the period between mid-May and early June. Here one arrest was made, three people were charged without restriction of personal freedom, and materials pertaining to weapons and explosives were seized.
The investigation was coordinated by the Central Operations Service and carried out by the Mobile Squads, with the support of the Crime Prevention Unit and other territorial offices. Particular attention was paid to break-ins and fraud against elderly people.
A specific focus concerned the possession of bladed weapons among young people: 11 items emerged, including blades, cutters, expandable batons, catapults, machetes, sabres and axes.
In total, officers identified 27,638 people, of whom 1,354 were minors. The checks concentrated on city neighbourhoods and near nightlife venues, areas where there is a higher frequency of property crimes. The objective was to strengthen presence on the ground in the most vulnerable areas, preventing and countering unlawful behaviour that undermines the sense of security among the population.
