A checkpoint at Latisana triggered an investigation that led to the dismantling of an organisation involved in drug dealing on a national scale. The inquiry, conducted by military personnel from the Trieste unit with support from the Central Service for Organised Crime, was directed by the Milan DDA.
During the "King George" operation, investigators arrested 16 people and registered a further 35 individuals in the investigation register. Searches resulted in the discovery and seizure of almost one hundred kilograms of drugs. Simultaneously, the confiscation of assets and liquid funds totalling over one million one hundred thousand euros was ordered.
According to the reconstruction, the association managed the flow of illicit substances, connecting the Balkan area to Italian territory. Intelligence activity made it possible to reconstruct the supply and distribution channels used by the group.
The case demonstrates how territorial controls can prove fundamental in uncovering complex criminal supply chains and in striking at the illicit economies linked to drug trafficking.
