Ostuni, gardener killed: 27-year-old arrested, investigations into third suspect

Arrested for the murder of Antonio Nisi

Gabriele Sorada, 27 years old, spent the night in prison following the arrest warrant issued by public prosecutor Laura De Stradis for the murder of Antonio Nisi, a 34-year-old gardener found dead at dawn on 16 October in via Imbriani in Ostuni with an entry wound between his armpit and arm, caused by a 7.65 calibre bullet. According to lagazzettadelmezzogiorno.it, Sorada presented himself voluntarily at 11.30 on Sunday 18 October at the carabinieri barracks together with his lawyer, Vito Cellie, to make spontaneous statements and provide his version of events.

During the interview he subsequently exercised his right not to answer and on that occasion named the experts who would assist him in technical investigations. After hearing the young man and evaluating the evidence gathered by investigators, the magistrate issued the arrest warrant. The 27-year-old was then transferred to prison whilst investigations continue.

At Sorada's home, investigators allegedly found weapons and narcotics subsequently seized. A ballistics examination will determine whether among those weapons is the 7.65 calibre gun from which the bullet that killed Nisi was fired.

Under investigation by authorities is the involvement of a possible third person, according to one of the investigative lines examined following the shooting that killed the gardener. This aspect remains the subject of further investigation by authorities.

The autopsy will be carried out in the coming days by forensic pathologist Domenico Urso and will clarify the exact cause of death of Antonio Nisi: whether death was the consequence of a cardio-circulatory arrest for other reasons or whether it was the bullet, which remained in his body, that passed through vital organs and caused death.
