Fifteen people have been arrested in the Tommaso Natale San Lorenzo district, where shootings and threats have been occurring for months. The government is considering the deployment of military units alongside law enforcement.

On the day the police arrested fifteen individuals linked to the criminal group that has been wreaking havoc in the Tommaso Natale San Lorenzo district since November, the head of government convened a public order and security summit in the Sicilian capital. The operation targeted the criminal group, which has become notorious for the use of assault rifles in the streets.
The restrictive measures were implemented in the district where, for months, automatic gunfire, extortion of business owners and entrepreneurs, and vehicles being set on fire have been recorded. The investigation was directed by the local district anti-mafia prosecutor's office, headed by prosecutor De Lucia, and investigates crimes ranging from extortion to possession of military weapons, with the aggravating factor of the mafia method.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that the government is willing to take exceptional action for territorial control, including through the use of military personnel in combined operations with police forces. She added that, if necessary, measures could be taken regarding the rules governing the "Safe Streets" initiative.
Minister Piantedosi has ordered the dispatch of ninety additional officers to the Palermo area, which will be added to the eight hundred and fifty already assigned to the area starting from 2025. Furthermore, to the nine million euros already allocated to the capital and surrounding municipalities, a further six million will be added for urban security interventions and strengthening of police stations.
The Prime Minister's presence in the city coincides with the period immediately preceding the commemoration of the Via D'Amelio attack. On the same day, she paid homage to the memorial stone dedicated to Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and the officers of their escort, located along the A29 motorway near Capaci.
