Music judge loses control outside Marrucino theatre: arrested then released

A 52-year-old percussionist resident in the Chieti area was arrested last Saturday after assaulting police officers outside the "Marrucino" theatre in Chieti. The Corriere della Sera reports. The man was participating as a judge in a music competition reserved for young instrumentalists.

At the end of the competition, the musician had left the building but returned shortly after, convinced that someone had taken his drum kit without his knowledge. Outside the theatre he began to shout and swear, frightening some of the spectators present, who called 112.

Assault on the officers

Upon the arrival of the police officers, the percussionist did not calm down. On the contrary, he reportedly attacked the officers. Only after calming his reaction did the carabinieri stop him and take him to house arrest, on the orders of the duty public prosecutor, Giancarlo Ciani.

On the same day, the Judge for preliminary investigations at the Chieti court validated the arrest but simultaneously ordered the release of the man.

The charges

According to the initial reconstruction by investigators, the musician had been invited as a judge to the competition. Once the event had concluded he had left the theatre, then returned claiming that his drum kit had disappeared. From that moment on the situation rapidly deteriorated.

The 52-year-old must now answer charges of resistance, contempt and assault on a public official.
