A 34-year-old man with a criminal record, subject to special surveillance, was arrested in Perugia after pretending to be an employee of a workshop to order spare parts without payment.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers from Perugia Police Headquarters arrested a 34-year-old with a criminal record. The measure was taken because the man was not complying with the restrictions of special surveillance, which required him to reside in Veroli, in the province of Frosinone. He had left the assigned municipality without valid justification.
The investigation began following a report from the owner of a shop selling vehicle components. The woman called the Emergency Services Single Number reporting that she had delivered material worth approximately two thousand euros to an individual who had assumed the identity of a mechanic from a body shop that was a regular client. Payment had never been made.
When the same subject requested another shipment of goods, the woman decided to verify by telephone with the workshop, thereby discovering the fraud.
Officers from the Mobile Squad set up a stakeout in the shop. Upon the arrival of the offender to collect the second batch of spare parts, an arrest was made. The vehicle he was travelling in was already flagged for embezzlement and officers confiscated it on the order of Chieti Court.
Subsequent inspection led to the discovery of bladed weapons and burglary tools: a pair of shears, a knife with a retractable blade and a chisel. Stolen documents were also found — a driving licence, cheques and a health insurance card — belonging to unwitting third parties.
Taken to Police Headquarters, the detainee was subjected to immediate trial proceedings. The magistrate ratified the arrest and ordered the man to remain within Gubbio's territory.
