Carbonaro trial, courtroom tensions: threats exchanged between families in Naples
At the opening of the trial for the murder of Martina Carbonaro in Afragola, shouting and threats between relatives of the victim and the defendant required police intervention.

According to ANSA Cronaca, courtroom 115 of Naples' new Palace of Justice opened on Monday with scenes of tension: between the relatives of Martina Carbonaro and those of defendant Alessio Tucci, threats were exchanged, including "I'll cut your head off", with both sides mimicking throat-cutting gestures. Police cleared the area reserved for relatives where Tucci's family members had gathered.
Tucci, 19 years old and Martina's ex-boyfriend, is accused of aggravated voluntary homicide. The fourteen-year-old was killed with blows from rocks in Afragola, in the province of Naples, on 25 May 2025, and was found the following day beneath a pile of building waste in an abandoned farmhouse. Tucci was present in the courtroom in tears.
Martina's father stated outside the Palace of Justice entrance that the defendant's father, Domenico Tucci, had threatened him before the hearing: "After killing my daughter, he wanted to kill me too". The victim's mother, Fiorenza Cossentino, spoke outside the courtroom: "Never a sentence ending", "every day I wear a mask, but I am in terrible condition" and "justice for my daughter". The family announced a candlelit vigil for 26 May, the anniversary of the femicide.
Sergio Pisani, solicitor for the Carbonaro family, called for state intervention: "It is not possible for the spotlight on this family to be on only during the trial. We are asking the State for psychologists present in the courtroom and beyond. This family needs help". He also recalled that threats to the family did not stop after the murder.
Martina's mother added: "We are suffering the real tragedy — my daughter is in a grave in Afragola. He, the murderer, will be able to leave prison and enjoy life". The Municipality of Afragola, the Polis Foundation and CAM Telefono Azzurro have intervened as interested parties. The trial is being held before the Court of Assizes of Naples.
