Hydra trial: prosecutor Cerreti against CSM: "The mafia in Lombardy is not silent"
During the hearing of the maxi-trial on the Consortium of mafias in the North, magistrate Alessandra Cerreti contested the recent deliberation by the Superior Council of the Judiciary that excludes Lombardy from areas of high mafia density.

"Here the mafia is not silent, it kills and threatens." With these words, magistrate Alessandra Cerreti opened her closing argument in the Hydra maxi-trial on the Consortium of mafias in the North, as documented by Il Fatto Quotidiano.
The reference was to the murder of Gaetano Cantarella, the so-called lupara bianca that gave rise to the investigation. The prosecution sought to send a signal to the Superior Council of the Judiciary, which on 11 June excluded experience in Dda units as a requirement for appointments in Milan, considering the Lombardy region not to have high mafia density.
Outside the bunker courtroom at San Vittore, mayors and representatives of associations such as Libera and Avviso Pubblico held a demonstration against the CSM's decision, offering support to prosecutors Alessandra Cerreti and Rosario Ferracane, who themselves have been the subjects of threats from the criminal organisation.
The General Prosecutor of Turin Lucia Musti added her voice to the criticism, recalling that the clans operate actively in the Central-Northern regions as well, in sectors such as construction, tourism, logistics and illegal waste disposal.
During her address, Cerreti described a criminal system that finds "in profit its binding element", equipped with an "economic-financial arsenal" in addition to weapons. The magistrate further stated that "Milan is a mafia context, neither more nor less than Calabria can be", calling for the abandonment of familiar patterns to confront "new associative realities".
There are 484 testimonies scheduled, including 291 from the judicial police and ten justice collaborators.
