The judges have retired to deliberate following the conclusion of proceedings on the collapse of the Morandi viaduct, which occurred in Genoa on 14 August 2018 and caused the death of 43 people. The verdict will be pronounced at 14:00.
In the dock are 57 defendants. The prosecution has requested cumulative sentences of nearly four centuries of imprisonment. The most severe request, 18 and a half years, had been formulated against the former chief executive of Autostrade per l'Italia Giovanni Castellucci, who was absent from the courtroom today.
Defence lawyers were present, as were many relatives of the victims and chief prosecutor Nicola Piacente.
