On 2 July, during intensified summer checks, personnel from Capo d'Orlando Police Station stopped an individual suspected of supplying controlled substances.
Officers became suspicious of the man's movements in a street in the town centre. They witnessed a hand-to-hand exchange with two other individuals, who fled upon the arrival of police. The main suspect attempted to escape but was caught and apprehended.
A personal search led to the discovery of four cellophane packets containing marijuana. Subsequently, at the suspect's home, investigators found additional hashish and marijuana, some of which was already divided into individual doses. They also seized a precision scales, various measuring cups and equipment for cutting and wrapping.
In total, approximately 330 grams of controlled substances were confiscated. Law enforcement estimated that this quantity could have yielded more than 1,300 doses, with a market value exceeding 13,000 euros.
The duty prosecutor at the Patti Court ordered house arrest for the suspect. On 6 July the Judge for Preliminary Investigations validated the measure, which remains in effect at the subject's residence.
The proceedings are still in their early stages. The principle remains that every person under investigation is considered innocent until a final conviction.
