On the evening of Wednesday 8 July 2026, personnel from the mobile patrol units of the Monza and Brianza police station arrested a 41-year-old man, a Moroccan citizen. The subject was stopped while committing a crime in flagrante delicto: he was in possession of psychotropic substances intended for drug trafficking, he resisted the officers and assaulted them, causing them physical injury.
The operation was part of a territorial control operation aimed at combating drug trafficking in the Brianza capital, as explained by the Monza and Brianza Police Headquarters. The officers had noticed a suspicious vehicle travelling on via A. Cederna towards via Salvadori and signalled the driver to stop.
However, the driver did not stop. Instead, he accelerated in an attempt to evade the check, forcing the officers to pursue him through several city streets. Forced to stop by traffic congestion, the man abandoned the car and fled on foot. After a chase of approximately one kilometre, police managed to catch up with him and detain him.
At that point the detainee put up violent resistance, thrashing about and striking the officers multiple times on their bodies. Only with considerable effort were the officers able to immobilise him and handcuff him.
A search of the vehicle was subsequently carried out. In the glove compartment of the front door on the driver's side, approximately thirty grammes of drugs were found, consisting partly of cocaine and partly of hashish. A personal search also resulted in the discovery of numerous banknotes of small denominations totalling 1,050 euros, a sum believed to be derived from the illegal activity of drug trafficking.
A validation hearing was held the following day, 9 July 2026. The judge confirmed the arrest and ordered that the man remain in custody pending trial.
