The State Police have executed an order from the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of Foggia Court: two people have been remanded in custody and two others placed under house arrest on suspicion of having stolen vehicles in Puglia, Molise and Abruzzo.

This morning, agents of the State Police carried out an order from the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of Foggia Court. Two people have been remanded in prison custody, whilst two others have been placed under house arrest. All are suspected of having stolen numerous motor vehicles and of having managed the fencing of the stolen vehicles.
The investigation was conducted by the San Severo Police Station, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Foggia. The investigators reconstructed a series of vehicle thefts that occurred in Puglia, Molise and Abruzzo, identifying the key role played by one of those arrested, who had previously been reported for similar crimes.
Some of the stolen vehicles were subsequently sold to the other individuals subject to the restrictive measure, who would have used them to commit other offences, as emerged from the technical investigations.
To exchange information, the suspects mainly used encrypted messaging applications, limiting the use of normal telephone channels in an attempt to evade the investigators' oversight.
Surveillance activities, pursuit and territorial control, combined with the experience of the officers, made it possible to neutralise the evasive strategies adopted by those arrested. Audio-visual interception techniques made it possible to document with precision, also in real time, the commission of the thefts.
The proceeding is still at the preliminary stage and the position of the suspects is subject to evaluation by the Judicial Authority, in accordance with the presumption of innocence principle.
