An attack involving flammable liquid turned a car into a deadly trap for four foreign seasonal workers in Amendolara, a town near Cosenza in Calabria. Italian law enforcement arrested two individuals suspected of being responsible for the quadruple killing, according to G4Media.ro citing the AP news agency.
Security camera footage captured the entire scene. The footage shows the attackers pouring combustible substance behind the stationary vehicle at a petrol station, before setting it alight. One of the suspects allegedly attempted to block the doors from outside, preventing the occupants from escaping.
Only one passenger managed to flee the burning vehicle, suffering severe burns and being admitted to a local hospital. The other four had no chance of survival.
Investigating magistrate Alessandro D'Alessio from Castrovillari confirmed the discovery of the bodies inside the vehicle last Monday and announced the arrest of two people connected to the incident.
Sources from the RAI television network indicate that the deceased were three Afghan citizens and one Pakistani national. Both arrested individuals are reported to hold Pakistani passports.
