Two men broke into a shop overnight, but were recognised thanks to the intervention of off-duty police officers.

During the night of 9-10 June, a fruit and vegetable shop in the via Pascoli area of Rimini was targeted by two disguised individuals. The criminals smashed the shopfront windows and stole the cash register.
The theft was interrupted by chance. Two State Police officers, although not on duty, were in the immediate vicinity and heard the noise. They immediately responded to the emergency.
One police officer observed the final phase of the theft. The thieves, realising they had been noticed, attempted to flee: one on a red bike, the other on a scooter. The officer gathered valuable information, including the registration plate of the two-wheeled vehicle.
The Mobile Squad and Patrol Units subsequently conducted thorough investigations. Through the descriptions provided, CCTV recordings and checks on the vehicle, they were able to identify the two perpetrators of the crime.
They are a 50-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both long-time residents of Rimini and already known to investigators for various prior convictions. The younger man had been arrested recently, on 26 May, for theft from a parked car. The judge had imposed on him the obligation to report to the Judicial Police every week, a measure still in force.
When he was traced, the fifty-year-old had various tools suitable for break-ins on him. For this reason he was also reported for unlawful possession of implements for break-ins.
