Robbery of €20,000 watch from British tourist in Piazza della Repubblica in Florence: two arrested

Luxury watch worth €20,000 snatched from wrist in Piazza della Repubblica

Two men aged 19 and 22 have been arrested by Florence Police on suspicion of aggravated robbery against a British tourist, from whom they stole a luxury watch worth approximately €20,000. This is reported by ANSA Cronaca.

The incident occurred in Piazza della Repubblica, in the historic centre of the city. The victim was about to enter a restaurant with his wife and daughter when the two approached him. According to the investigators' reconstruction, one of the two blocked the tourist's right arm under the pretext of preceding him at the entrance, simultaneously snatching the watch from his left wrist. The accomplice then sprayed irritant spray towards the victim and the people present to cover their escape. Several witnesses pursued the two men immediately after the assault.

The investigation by the Mobile Squad of Florence Police Headquarters made it possible to reconstruct the sequence of events through images from surveillance systems, both public and private, installed in the area. The two suspected perpetrators were traced to a bed and breakfast in the city centre and transferred to Sollicciano prison, where the judge validated the arrest and remand in custody.

At the same bed and breakfast there were two other young men, aged 21 and 26, who were reported for handling stolen goods. The 26-year-old, lacking valid residency documentation, was expelled from national territory and taken to the Reception Centre for Repatriation.
