Google News IT — Crime (it) reports that on 25 June the State Police conducted fifteen searches against a group of young people aged between eighteen and twenty years, of Italian and foreign nationality, believed to be responsible for several episodes of brawls and assaults committed against peers over recent months in Trieste.
Among the episodes at the centre of the investigation is the one on 20 May on via Pascoli, when some residents reported a violent brawl on the street involving numerous young people. During the intervention, officers seized baseball bats, metal pipes and a knife found on the public road. According to testimonies gathered, sticks and other blunt objects were reportedly used during the brawl.
The investigations by the Mobile Squad made it possible to attribute some of the same individuals to assaults that occurred in the area of the city's nightlife and during the Carnival of Muggia. The checks revealed that the boys involved in the various episodes are part of a single group, characterised by a marked propensity for the use of violence.
At the conclusion of the investigative checks, the findings were transmitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Trieste. The deputy prosecutor in charge of the proceedings, Dr M. Faion, agreeing with the investigators' findings, issued a decree for personal search against all those under investigation. During the searches carried out in the morning of 25 June, the same clothes worn by the young people during the various episodes of violence were found.
The young people are under investigation, jointly and in various capacities, for the offences of aggravated assault and threats, in relation to the various episodes reconstructed by the investigators.
In parallel, the Prefect of Police of Trieste adopted personal preventive measures against all the subjects: DACUR (Prohibition on Access to Urban Areas), which prohibits those subject to the order from frequenting specific areas of the city, and compulsory exclusion notices.
The measures are part of a broader intervention aimed at combating youth violence that in recent months has affected various areas of the provincial territory.
The proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase. The investigative acquisitions are provisional in nature and the precautionary measures are non-final in character. By virtue of the principle of presumption of innocence, the subjects under investigation cannot be considered guilty until a final determination of their responsibility is established.
