Sanremo, twenty-year-old admits to killing his mother at holiday home

A twenty-year-old boy has acknowledged being responsible for his mother's death, which occurred on 6 July in the family flat in Sanremo. The admission was made during a preliminary hearing before the magistrate of Imperia.

The young man, a university student in Piacenza, is under investigation for homicide aggravated by family ties. The victim, 58 years old, was found dead in via Hope. According to investigations by the carabinieri, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Imperia, a different picture emerges from the account initially given by the son: he would have first committed the act, then left to eat out and, upon his return, called emergency services claiming he could not get into the house.

At the hearing, which lasted approximately two and a half hours, the boy answered questions from the judge. His lawyers did not comment on the reasons for the act. At the conclusion, the magistrate validated the arrest and ordered remand in custody.

The investigation had already raised doubts about the reconstruction provided by the young man. The woman's body showed injuries consistent with a struggle: wounds to the neck, face and upper limbs, indicating she had put up a fight. A witness also reported hearing a violent altercation between the two. The medical examiner established that at the time emergency responders arrived the victim had been dead for at least three hours.

The arrested man had been taken to the police station a few hours after the body was found. He appeared in court visibly distressed, with moments of considerable emotional turmoil.
