Disappearance of Denise Pipitone, 22 years without justice: mayor of Mazara recalls
1 September marks the 22nd anniversary of Denise Pipitone's abduction. Mayor Quinci renews support for the family and calls for truth.
Twenty-second anniversary of Denise Pipitone's abduction
Twenty-two years have passed since the abduction of Denise Pipitone, which occurred on 1 September 2004 in Mazara del Vallo, and judicial truth remains distant. ANSA Cronaca recalled this on the anniversary, reporting the words of the mayor of the Sicilian town, Salvatore Quinci.
"The abduction of Denise is an open and painful wound, first and foremost for her family, but also for that healthy part of our community that was profoundly shaken by that criminal act still without justice," Quinci stated.
The mayor directed his thoughts to the parents of the child, Piera Maggio and Piero Pulizzi, her brother Kevin, and all those who shared Denise's nearly four years of life before her disappearance: grandparents, uncles, cousins, and Tony Pipitone, who, although not her biological father, raised her as his own daughter.
"Finding Denise safe and well one day, being able to embrace her again, is the dream of her loved ones and of all of us," Quinci added. "Hope has never faded, despite 22 years having passed."
The mayor also recalled the responsibility of those who, at the time, could have made a contribution to the investigation and did not, describing them as "certainly few and self-interested". The community of Mazara del Vallo, Quinci concluded, "continues to cry out Truth and Justice for Denise".
