Blow against fraud in the logistics sector
Milan's Guardia di Finanza carried out a precautionary seizure of €10 million against four leading companies in the logistics, transport and security market. According to milanotoday.it, the operation dismantled an established mechanism of labour exploitation and tax fraud. The investigation also involved the provinces of Como, Verona, Rome and Lecce, where searches were conducted at the legal entities involved.
At the centre of the inquiry emerged unlawful labour supply through fictitious subcontracting agreements and the issuance of invoices for legally non-existent transactions. Investigators traced a "labour chain" where employment relationships were concealed through the interposition of shell companies, which in turn made use of cooperatives — described as veritable "reservoirs" of workers — systematically omitting payment of VAT, social security and welfare contributions owed to employees.
This practice made it possible to illegitimately reduce operating costs. All the companies involved are currently registered in the investigators' register as a result of the reconstructive activity conducted by the financial police, analysing in detail the subcontracting chain.
