A 20-year-old Tunisian youth was arrested in Bolzano on Thursday morning. An arrest warrant was pending against him for a lengthy series of crimes against property committed in the city centre between September 2025 and March 2026.
According to Südtirol News, police had gathered sufficient evidence and made it available to the prosecutor's office, enabling the investigating judge to issue the order for precautionary custody. The man, already known to law enforcement, is an asylum seeker.
The charges concern several incidents. On 7 September 2025 he allegedly committed a break-in theft at the restaurant "Zur Kaiserkron", stealing the till and causing material damage. On 9 November 2025 he was found in possession of a valuable mountain bike that had been reported stolen. On 27 November 2025, together with an accomplice, he allegedly acted in a theft with snatching at the supermarket "Dpiù".
Other crimes charged include a break-in at the "Temple Bar" venue on 29 December 2025, with loot of over 1,000 euros in cash and substantial damage, the theft of personal items belonging to an employee at "Spizzico" on 5 January 2026, and a theft of food items from the bar at the "Eni" petrol station on 29 January. On 17 March 2026 he was again found with an expensive e-bike reported as stolen.
The definitive arrest took place Thursday morning near WaltherPark, after witnesses reported a man attempting to force the lock of a bicycle with a stone. When several patrol units arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to flee on board the e-bike worth approximately 5,000 euros. After a brief chase, officers stopped him near the Loreto bridge.
The youth was taken to a detention cell at the police headquarters and, after a summary trial, transferred to Bolzano prison. The e-bike was returned to its legitimate owner.
