A 70-year-old Moroccan citizen has been arrested in Turin on drug offences. The State Police conducted extraordinary operations in the Masserano and Mother Teresa of Calcutta gardens.

A 70-year-old Moroccan citizen with no fixed abode was arrested in an abandoned building between Via Bertini and Via Agostino di Montefeltro in Turin, according to rainews.it. The man was the subject of a warrant for the execution of concurrent sentences issued by the Turin Public Prosecutor's Office, totalling 2 years, 9 months and 29 days, in addition to a financial penalty that remains unpaid. The convictions concern drug trafficking offences committed between 2020 and 2021 in the Porta Palazzo area and the Roman quadrilateral.
The arrest was part of an extraordinary "high-impact" territorial control operation conducted in the Dora-Vanchiglia district by the State Police, with the participation of the Piedmont Crime Prevention Unit, a canine unit, the Financial Police and Local Police. The stated objective was the prevention and suppression of crime and urban decay.
The first operation targeted the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Gardens on Corso Vercelli, known as a drug dealing spot. The checks made it possible to identify several foreign nationals. A woman found in possession of a modest quantity of hashish for personal use received an administrative fine.
The operation then moved to the gardens on Via Masserano, at the corner of Via Biella, which had been reported for the presence of people engaged in drug trafficking. Upon seeing the officers, some of those present fled. Two foreign nationals were stopped, taken to the offices for identification and reported without custody for resisting a public official.
The checks continued at a commercial establishment in the area, where another foreign national was located and arrested, the subject of a warrant for the execution of a custodial sentence of 4 months and 20 days. A fourth individual was instead reported for violation of immigration regulations.
The canine unit, during a search among parked cars in Piazza della Repubblica, found and seized fragments of hashish. At the conclusion of the operation, Local Police and the Financial Police carried out an inspection of a public establishment on Via Cigna, finding irregularities relating to the unlawful occupation of public land, premises hygiene and waste separation. The pecuniary fine imposed amounted to 307 euros.
