Brawl at emergency room: ex-Amici dancer Simone Benedetti arrested

Simone Benedetti, a 40-year-old ex-dancer and finalist from the third series of "Amici" in 2003/2004, was arrested in Rome during the night between 1 and 2 June after sparking a violent brawl inside the emergency room of Aurelia Hospital, where he had gone for checks following an accident. This is reported by roma.corriere.it.

Everything began when doctors and nurses told him not to smoke inside the facility. Benedetti, also active as a lead performer in musicals, rebelled against the ban: a brawl ensued which continued even after police intervened. According to the reconstruction by investigators, the ex-dancer allegedly threw a helmet and a skateboard at a nurse and directed the insult "You must all die" at the officers.

The charges against him were further aggravated by threats made towards healthcare personnel: he allegedly stated that he wanted to "blow up the entire ward" and claimed to know the home address of another operator at the emergency department, suggesting future consequences should she not let him light a cigarette.

Benedetti was subsequently brought before the judge on charges of resistance and aggravated assault. The magistrate validated the arrest and ordered a residence requirement in Rome. In an attempt to flee the hospital, the ex-dancer collided with a parked police car outside, sustaining minor bruising.

In court, represented by lawyer Giovanni Ferrari, Benedetti provided an account of events radically different from that of the investigators. He alleged that he had been mistreated by emergency room staff, claiming he had been dragged to the ground and bound with adhesive tape.
