The mayor of Taurano, in the province of Avellino, Michele Bonfiglio, has stated that he has been threatened in connection with the allocation of assets seized from organised crime. This is reported by ANSA Cronaca.
The statements were made during the "Legality and Future" meeting, promoted by the Pro Loco, in the presence of Colonel Angelo Zito, provincial commander of the carabinieri in Avellino. Bonfiglio reported that he was approached by an individual interested in the seized assets, who questioned his decisions in explicitly threatening tones.
The mayor's words immediately prompted an investigation by the carabinieri to identify the author of the alleged threats. In the territory of the Vallo di Lauro, a total of 21 properties and one business seized from criminal organisations historically active in the area are on record: some have already entered the municipal property portfolio, others are in the process of being allocated to entities and cooperatives for social and public purposes.
"I will not be intimidated," Bonfiglio emphasised, "and we will continue on the path we have set out to build a territory free from all forms of violence and abuse every day."
