Arrest warrant validated for Vibo Valentia shooting: preventative custody for 55-year-old
As reported by Google News IT — Crime (it), the judicial authority validated the arrest of a 55-year-old man strongly suspected of attempted murder and illegal possession and carrying of a firearm in Vibo Valentia.
The events date back to 28 August, when Mobile Squad officers intervened at the emergency room of Jazzolino Hospital following a report of a man wounded by gunshots. The victim, a 61-year-old from Vibo Valentia, had sustained serious injuries to his right foot and left thigh, as well as several fractures to his fingers.
The investigation reconstructed the dynamics of the assault: the suspect had waited for the victim to leave his home and get into his car, before approaching the vehicle with his face uncovered and firing eight shots at chest height. The 61-year-old managed to exit the car and take shelter behind the vehicle, moving away as the attacker continued to fire in his direction; some bullets struck parked cars in the vicinity.
Investigators also outlined a possible retaliatory motive for the incident: some relatives of the suspect had been involved in a quarrel over trivial reasons with the victim.
On 31 August, police located the 55-year-old near the same vehicle used during the ambush and subsequent escape, after more than three days of searches. At the end of standard procedures, the man was taken to Vibo Valentia Prison and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority. The latter validated the arrest and ordered the measure of preventative custody in prison.
