On the afternoon of 24 June 2026, a tragedy struck Pieve di Camaiore, in the province of Lucca. A sixty-three-year-old man opened fire with a hunting rifle inside his own home, fatally shooting his fifty-two-year-old wife and twenty-four-year-old son.
The alarm was raised thanks to reports from residents in the area, who heard the shots fired. Military police and police officers rushed to the scene and managed to detain the perpetrator while he was still inside the house.
From initial reconstructions, it emerges that tensions were not absent within the family unit, although no one would have imagined an explosion of violence of such magnitude. Emergency medical service responders and the rescue helicopter crew attempted to provide assistance to the victims, but there was nothing to be done for either of them.
The authorities are now investigating to clarify the precise circumstances of the serious bloodshed.
