Baruzzo had valid firearms licence; prosecutor opens inquiry into procedures

Daniele Baruzzo had passed the medical and psychological assessment required for renewing his firearms licence before killing his wife and 14-year-old son in the family villa in Finale Ligure, then taking his own life. La Repubblica reports.

The prosecutor leading the investigation has opened an examination into the procedures followed during the renewal of the firearms licence to establish whether all formalities required by current regulations were observed.

One element that has emerged from the inquiry concerns Baruzzo's registration at the local shooting range. The facility's director stated that the man had been registered since 2024 but had never attended any training sessions.

Investigators intend to reconstruct in detail the process that led to the issuing and subsequent renewal of the authorisation, with particular attention to the results of the psychological evaluation carried out before the massacre.
