In recent nights, several hundred cars – mostly registered in Germany – descended on areas around Lake Garda for unauthorised racing events. According to a report published by oe24.at, the event dubbed "Illegal Nights" had been publicised across the border and drew approximately two thousand participants in total to Italy.
The gatherings took place at multiple locations in the Brescia and Mantova areas: commercial car parks and industrial zones near Desenzano, Lonato, Montichiari, Mazzano and Brescia. Before crowds of over one thousand people, drivers performed controlled drifts and dangerous stunts on public roads. The activity was found to be linked to a legal event, the "Southern Gardasee – SO.GA.", which took place in Monzambano.
The meetings were coordinated via social media platforms, with immediate alerts issued about the presence of law enforcement. The authorities responded by stepping up checks over the weekend. The results: more than one hundred drivers identified, around twenty infringement notices issued and three vehicles seized for altered or illegible number plates.
Investigators are now focusing on those who organised and provided logistical support for the meetings. Footage recorded at the scene will be used to identify spectators who may have facilitated the events or obstructed police operations.
On the political front, parliamentarian Giangiacomo Calovini (Fratelli d'Italia) has announced his intention to activate diplomatic representations in Berlin and Vienna to strengthen international cooperation against this cross-border phenomenon.
