Assault at Marechiaro: police search for young man reported for sexual violence

The State Police are investigating to identify the alleged perpetrator of a sexual assault committed on 26 August in the waters of Marechiaro, a district of Naples. ANSA Cronaca reports that a 34-year-old woman of Colombian origin and resident in Germany filed a complaint at Police Headquarters.

According to the reconstruction, the victim was in Naples on holiday with a friend, also a foreigner. Three young Neapolitan men allegedly approached the 34-year-old, who was in difficulty in the water. One of them, claiming to help her, allegedly abused her as she was getting back onto the pier. Her friend was at the bar at that time.

The woman was helped by a Neapolitan friend, who took her to the emergency room and then to Police Headquarters, where she filed a complaint on the same day as the incident. The 34-year-old is assisted by lawyer Arcangelo Caiazzo.

Investigators acquired images from a surveillance system, however these would not allow full identification of the alleged attacker or his friends. The investigation is still ongoing.

"The 34-year-old returned to her country where she began a course with psychologists from an association," said lawyer Caiazzo, "who told her that after experiencing sexual abuse it is natural to be afraid of men and the dark".
