The chief prosecutor of Sulmona has commented on the discovery of two sisters who went missing from a care home in L'Aquila and the arrest of three people on suspicion of kidnapping.

The chief prosecutor of Sulmona, Luciano D'Angelo, has explained the circumstances of the case in which two minor sisters disappeared from a care home in Civitella Alfedena, in the L'Aquila area. The girls were found on the evening of 21 June in Formia, in the province of Latina, inside an apartment owned by an elderly woman who is now among those under investigation.
"We are not here to celebrate and praise arrests and captures, but to celebrate the liberation of two girls for whom we feared during a period of time that we might never see again," the magistrate said. In his view, what occurred is attributable to "sick parental love".
The police have executed a detention order against three individuals, accused of unlawfully depriving the two minors of their liberty. The restrictive measure was issued during the night of 21 and 22 June and will need to be validated by the competent judicial authority. "The people we have arrested are people for whom the presumption of innocence continues to apply," D'Angelo wished to emphasise.
Following the report of their disappearance, the search focused until their discovery in the town in southern Lazio. The sisters had been removed from the protected facility where they had been placed. The investigation continues to reconstruct in detail the circumstances of the abduction and the possible involvement of other individuals.
