Attack in Castrovillari: woman stabbed and rescued by friend, 30-year-old detained

A thirty-year-old man waited for a woman outside her home in Castrovillari, in the province of Cosenza, struck her multiple times with a knife and then attempted to strangle her. Il Fatto Quotidiano reports. The victim suffered serious wounds to the head and back, but was saved thanks to the intervention of a friend who drove the attacker away. The carabinieri arrested the 30-year-old on the charge of attempted femicide.

The man, an acquaintance of the victim, had repeatedly attempted to persuade her to begin a relationship with him, receiving refusal each time. After waiting for her to return home, he snatched her mobile phone from her hand and struck her repeatedly with a knife.

The investigation by the carabinieri, coordinated by the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor's Office, began following the report of the girl's admission to the emergency room. Investigators reconstructed the dynamics of the attack through witness statements and images from surveillance cameras.

The 30-year-old was traced and apprehended at his own residence. During the search, two knives were found and seized, the clothing worn during the attack and the vehicle used to flee: all bearing traces presumed to be blood.
