Violent assault outside a bar
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the State Police of Reggio Emilia arrested on the evening of Thursday 15 October an Albanian citizen aged 57 in execution of an order from the Judge for Preliminary Investigations. The man is under investigation for attempted murder of a fellow countryman and work colleague.
The events date back to 18 August at around 23:00, when the attacker allegedly attacked the victim outside a bar on Via Gorizia, where they had arranged to meet. According to investigators from the Mobile Squad, the assault was carried out "for trivial reasons" with a work tool.
Injuries and emergency intervention
The victim sustained wounds to the head, shoulders and a deep injury to the right lung. The injured man underwent life-saving surgery at the local hospital, where he had been transported urgently by some fellow countrymen present at the time of the incident.
The alarm was raised by residents of the area, who had heard screams from the street and recorded a video that proved crucial for the investigation. Images from surveillance systems, witness testimony and interceptions enabled investigators to reconstruct what happened.
Arrest and searches
Officers traced the 57-year-old to his home in the Rosta Nuova district, where they carried out a search looking for the clothing worn during the assault. The suspect was transferred to Reggio Emilia prison, where he will remain pending the bail hearing. According to the Reggio prosecutor's office, headed by prosecutor Calogero Gaetano Paci, the man was unknown to law enforcement.
