Arrested for blast in Terralba: opens gas cylinders and triggers explosion

A 39-year-old man has been arrested by carabinieri on suspicion of causing a blast after detonating his own home on Sunday morning in Terralba, in the Oristano province. This is reported by ANSA Cronaca.

According to what was established by carabinieri, who responded to the scene along with fire brigade personnel and emergency services, the 39-year-old allegedly opened two gas cylinders that were not connected to the domestic system, saturating the rooms of the dwelling. He then allegedly triggered the explosion with a lighter, becoming caught up in it himself.

The explosion destroyed the dwelling, damaged the fence of a neighbouring house and put the safety of passers-by at risk. The man is currently under guard at Sassari hospital, where he is being treated for burns he sustained.

The reasons for his actions are not yet known. The 39-year-old, already known to law enforcement, is believed to be living in a condition of distress linked also to difficulties with family members.
