Turin: second suspect arrested for robberies on electric scooter in city centre

State Police arrested the second suspect on 31 August in Turin, who was subject to a custodial remand order issued by Turin Court, according to Google News IT — Crime (it). The man had been wanted since 9 August, the day the assaults occurred in the city centre.
The second suspect went into hiding immediately after the incidents. Investigators from the Mobile Squad located him following intensive searches, then executed the restrictive measure.
His arrest follows that of the first suspect, arrested on 27 August thanks to investigations launched in the immediate aftermath of the episodes. Mobile Squad officers had reconstructed the sequence of assaults by analysing CCTV systems, victim statements and photographic identifications.
According to findings from the investigation, the two men travelled on an electric scooter and allegedly struck on three separate occasions: they would approach victims from behind, yank them violently and attempt to steal the necklaces they were wearing. In one of the episodes, the victim was allegedly pushed to the ground with violence; some bystanders who came to his aid allegedly faced urticant spray. In another case, one of the two suspects allegedly dropped a knife, which was later seized by officers. One of the injured parties suffered injuries healing within a few days.
The arrests are part of a broader operation launched by Turin Police Headquarters in recent months, with targeted operations in various areas of the city to combat street crimes, often committed on scooters. In just the last month, operations conducted by the Mobile Squad, the Upper General Police Service and municipal precincts resulted in the identification of 25 people for theft with snatching, of which over one-third were stopped in the city centre.
Police Headquarters clarifies that the criminal proceedings relating to the most recent episode are still in the preliminary investigation phase and that, until final sentence, the presumption of innocence applies in favour of the suspects.
