Arrests for rapid-fire thefts in Aurora district
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the State Police have arrested an 18-year-old and a 30-year-old Moroccan national in two separate incidents that occurred in recent days in the Aurora district of Turin. The two are believed to be responsible respectively for snatching theft and attempted snatching theft, in the context of intensified territorial control services aimed at combating predatory crimes.
In the first intervention, patrol units from the Dora Vanchiglia police station responded to corso Novara, where a woman had personally stopped the girl after being robbed of her own gold necklace. The 18-year-old had reached the victim on an electric scooter together with an accomplice, violently snatching the jewellery from her and handing it to the driver. Despite being pregnant, the victim grabbed the girl by her hoodie, preventing her from fleeing. Officers stopped the 18-year-old and took her to the police station, where she was arrested following checks.
In the second incident, a man on an electric scooter snatched a gold necklace from a woman's neck on corso XI Febbraio, fleeing towards corso Regina Margherita. Officers from the same police station, passing through the area, noticed the group pursuing the man. Sensing that a crime had been committed, the officers launched a pursuit, reaching him shortly afterwards and stopping him. The necklace was recovered after the 30-year-old, realising he was being followed, dropped it during his flight.
During the search of the individual, officers found a further gold chain with a snapped clasp hidden in the man's right shoe. Inquiries also revealed that the 30-year-old was subject to an obligation to report to the Judicial Police. Because of the resistance he offered during the search, the man was arrested for attempted snatching theft and also reported for receiving stolen goods and resistance to a Public Official. On the orders of the Judicial Authority, he was taken to Lorusso and Cutugno detention centre.
The criminal proceedings are currently at the preliminary investigation stage; the presumption of innocence of those under investigation applies until final conviction.
