Turin, two foreign nationals expelled after convictions for murder and sexual exploitation
The State Police have repatriated a 59-year-old Albanian convicted of murder and a 47-year-old Romanian convicted of sexual exploitation.
Two repatriations in 24 hours: Turin expels convicts for murder and sexual exploitation
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, Turin's State Police carried out two separate forced repatriations between 3 and 4 September against foreign nationals with convictions for serious crimes.
The first concerns a 59-year-old Albanian convicted of murder and sentenced to 12 years and 4 months. On 3 September the man was boarded on a flight from Milan Malpensa to Tirana, after the Questore (Police Commissioner) of Turin, Massimo Gambino, had refused to renew his residence permit on 24 August and the Prefect of Turin had issued the expulsion order. In the hours that followed, he was held at the Brunelleschi Temporary Detention Centre in Turin pending the organisation of the flight.
The crime for which he was convicted dates back to 2014. The man, then 48 years old, had attacked his partner in an apartment on via Le Chiuse in the San Donato district at the height of a quarrel. The woman was struck multiple times in the abdomen and chest; despite surgery at Maria Vittoria Hospital, she died that same evening. After leaving the apartment, the man reported voluntarily to San Donato Police Station. Investigations had reconstructed a situation of severe conflict between the couple, including regarding the woman's wish to end the relationship.
The second repatriation took place on the evening of 4 September: a 47-year-old Romanian citizen was boarded on a flight to Bucharest from Turin airport. The expulsion had been ordered as a security measure under Article 235 of the Criminal Code. The man had been convicted of sexual exploitation and sentenced to 2 years and 8 months for a crime committed in July 2009, and had previous convictions for assault and robbery.
Investigations had identified him as a possible member of foreign organised crime groups engaged in the sexual exploitation of fellow nationals, as well as offences of enslavement and sexual violence. He had been classified as a socially dangerous individual. He was stopped on 4 September by staff from the Susa Motorway Police, who verified the pending security measure and immediately activated repatriation procedures.
The two operations were made possible by collaboration between the Susa Motorway Police, the Immigration Office of Turin Police Headquarters and the Border Police, which provided support at airport terminals. Both measures were executed within hours.
